My Perceptions of
Online Learning
As a millennial in a busy and fast paced world, I truly
value online learning. All through elementary school and high school I can
always remember being unenthused about going to school because I was always
bored with the curriculum. I excelled in every subject. Nothing really challenged
me while in school as a child. I would always sit in class and catch on and be
able to apply anything I learned almost instantly. This led me to ‘skip’ 5th
grade, but I still kept up with ease. When online learning was introduced, I
was happy, because now I could study and learn and apply concepts at my own
pace. Online learning has given me a passion to consistently learn.
Online learning gives the world an opportunity to give the
possibility of a higher education to anyone. This includes those who don’t have
transportation to a university, or if they are disabled or their schedule
simply won’t allow them to attend school. Online learning also teaches self-discipline
to those who either don’t possess it, or don’t know they have it! Personally,
online teaching has bought out the best in me, as far as skills I never knew I
had such as: multitasking, time management, delegating tasks/ assignments, etc.
Online Teaching
In my opinion online teaching exposes some of the greatest
instructors to students that may have never been able to reach them if it weren’t
for online learning. Just like some students prefer to learn online, I feel
that some teachers may prefer this method also, and it may bring the best out
of them. I have truly been inspired by some of my online professors to the
point that I now aspire to be one.
With that being said, I expect to gain some really valuable
knowledge about becoming an online teacher out of this class and certificate
program. I believe I have the skills and knowledge to become a very proficient
online facilitator. I want to learn how to cater to all types of students from
all different academic backgrounds and share with them all of the tools that I
have gotten me as far I have academically.
